Our skilled team is made up of management and supervisors supported by administration staff, draftsmen, engineers, project managers, trade qualified supervisors, air conditioning technicians, chiller service technicians, fully licensed plumbers, gas fitters, sheet metal workers, duct installers, apprentices and trades assistants.

Bill Skuthorp - General Manager

Bill's responsibilities include:

  • Manages the operation of AMS Service & Maintenance Pty Ltd
  • Business development and financial management of the service and special projects division.
  • Production of service, repair and project budgets
  • Support the Paragon management team.

Bill has worked exclusively in the Air Conditioning and Mechanical Services industry, during which time he has been a Service Manager in excess of 17 years.

He has been responsible for the development, marketing, supervision and coordination of on-site labour in both service and contracting organisations. Additionally, he has managed and coordinated the commissioning and final completion of many large central plant installations within Perth. Such as the Mechanical Fit out of Rio Tinto Expansion at 93-95 William St Perth, Transfield Worley at 10 William St, Central Park Plantroom Upgrade, upgrade of the air-conditioning system at Forrest Centre, 219 & 221 St. Georges Tce and Chevron Dynons Plaza office Fitout.

Bill's role within the AMS Service & Maintenance Pty Ltd is that of coordination, administration and execution of the detailed service and maintenance plan. Bill is accountable for the implementation and process of our quality and contract performance.

Alan Jefferies - Director / Service Manager

Qualifications:

  • Four year apprenticeship
  • Certificate of Trade Studies - Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
  • Restricted Electrical License

Years in Industry: 34

Alan completed his apprenticeship in 1979 and has worked at several local and international service providers prior to commencing operation of AMS Service & Maintenance in 2000. Alan's experience covers all facets of the HVAC industry, including design, installation, commissioning, service and maintenance of a wide variety of refrigeration and air conditioning systems. In his current role as Service Manager at AMS, he is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of over 30 HVAC technician's and apprentices as well as providing technical backup as required. He is charged with the Quality Control of the service operations and also oversees the operations of the Site Service Supervisory Staff.

His prior employment has included the following projects and services:

  • Major refurbishment of air conditioning chiller sets and refrigeration plant and equipment onboard the USNS HH Hess, a USN survey vessel operating between Australia and Singapore. In conjunction with Dawson Offshore Services, the vessel's refrigeration and HVAC plant underwent a three week rebuild of all refrigerant compressors and chilled water circulating pumps, disassembly and internal cleaning of the refrigerant condenser and cooler vessels, recalibration of the operating and safety controls, cleaning/sanitising of the air handling and distribution systems and rectification of numerous previously ongoing faults with the systems. Alan was the lead technician on the project and accompanied the vessel on successful three day equipment proving sea trial at the completion of the project.
  • Lead technician during a major redesign/refurbishment of the refrigeration and HVAC systems onboard the HMAS Westralia following its purchase from the British Navy. Works included rebuilding of the various refrigerant compressors, recalibration of the operating and safety controls, cleaning/sanitising of the air handling and distribution systems and installation and commissioning of additional mechanical ventilation systems for various areas of the vessel.
  • Responsible for full inspection and provision of condition report for the refrigeration and HVAC systems onboard the HMAS Moresby for the Australian Navy, prior to major refit.
  • FIFO servicing of all refrigeration and HVAC systems at the Argyle Diamond Mine, located in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. The works covered all equipment from freezer/cool rooms to Room Air Conditioners (RAC) up to major ducted A/C systems across the complete mine site.

Alan continues to have a strong "Hands On" approach to all areas of the Refrigeration and HVAC industry and is often called upon to assist with fault finding and general servicing of all makes/models of mechanical plant and equipment.

Shaun Speck - Tenancy Services Manager

Qualifications: Diploma in Management

Shaun has been involved in the mechanical services industry for 11 years having previously worked as a multi-disciplined draftsperson, at leading consulting engineering firm, Norman Disney & Young.

Shaun has been with AMS Service & Maintenance since July 2003 and is currently employed as the Tenancy Services Manager. With this role he is responsible for the companies Construction/Tenancy Fitout team as well as the companies drafting office.

Dhammika Devapriya - Mechanical Engineer

Qualifications:

  • B.Sc engineering degree
  • Post Graduate diploma in Environmental Pollution Control Engineering

  • Member, American Society of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers Inc. (MASHRAE)

Dhammika has worked on several multinational projects in Singapore, East Africa, Maldives, Dubai and Sri Lanka through tendering, design, design development, installation, test and commissioning. Dhammika has gained the recognition from clients as dedicated client orientated person who aims to achieve the best outcome for all stakeholders.

Dhammika has a vast knowledge in building services sector not only HVAC, but also plumbing, fire protection, waste and drainage, renewable energy and waste recovery systems. His responsibilities include:

  • Design and development of HVAC systems
  • Preparation of shop and as constructed drawings
  • Fabrication of various structures, supports and other related items
  • HVAC&R system installation, testing and commissioning

Colin Callanan - Project Manager

Qualifications:

Colin is originally from Ireland and has previous experience from abroad within the mechanical and maintenance field. He has extensive knowledge in plant and equipment from relevant training and experience.

Colin has been with AMS Service and Maintenance for 3 years. During this time he has proven to be a team leader and has demonstrated initiative, energy, commitment and professionalism to every task. Colin's responsibilities are:

  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and of a high quality standard
  • Cost effective use of in-house and sub-contractor labour
  • Client reporting
  • Ensure AMS and any project specific OHS & E requirements are met

Courtney Cattle - Tenancy Service Administrator & Draftsperson

Courtney started with AMS Service & Maintenance within the accounts department and has since moved to the tenancy department as a draftsperson and tenancy services administrator. She has recently finished her draftsperson traineeship and was awarded the AIRAH 2009 Best Performance for Diploma Studies. Courtney is also involved with OH & S within the company and is in the process of setting up an OH & S management system.

Courtney has grown within the company and has developed strong product knowledge paired with a high attention to detail. Her organisation skills, motivation and broad range of skills make her a valuable member of any project team.

Gurshwin Ontong - Tenancy Field Supervisor

Gurshwin has worked in the mechanical services industry locally and nationally as both a Refrigeration Technician and more recently as a Tenancy Field Supervisor. Neil Burgess - Tenancy Field Supervisor

Neil has worked as an air-conditioning Duct installer since 1980, working on a variety of jobs from high rise construction to domestic jobs. Different works include Duct extraction, Building air-conditioning units in chamber form, Office fit outs, Plant room Modifications and Re-fits, Work for the A.D.F Satellite dishes, Kitchen hoods and exhaust systems.

His responsibilities include:

  • Supervising tenancy and projects works
  • Ordering parts and materials
  • Supervising sub contractors
  • Supervising building, electrical and control works
  • Overseeing jobs from start through to defects liability period and handover

Wayne has worked in the sheet metal / air conditioning industry since 1977. He has been with AMS for more than 4 years. He is responsible for overseeing multiple tenancy fit outs. Wayne excels in the industry through his knowledge and experience; his dedication and initiative thinking make Wayne one of our biggest assets.

Chiller Services Division

John Clark - Chiller Service Manager

Qualifications:

  • 4 Year apprenticeship in Western Australia
  • 5 Years doing Commercial Refrigeration
  • 15 Years working with Trane in Western Australia in the following roles: Service Technician, Commissioning Technician, Supervisor, Customer Account Manager.
  • 12 years Global Technical Support engineer (Trane America), Technical Service Manager (Trane Asia Pacific)

Years in Industry: 37

John has been involved in the mechanical services industry for 37 years having previously worked as a leading service technician globally for Trane Australia. He has recently started at AMS as the chiller Service Manager and has extensive experience within the industry and is multidiscipline with a range of Chiller products, not limited to but including Trane, Powerpax and York. John's knowledge, skill and experience within the industry is second to none and makes him a vital part of any chiller installation team.

John's responsibilities are:

  • Specialist in providing technical support for Chiller Technicians and customers
  • Providing maintenance programs for chillers and associated equipment
  • Providing solutions for customers in relation to any chiller problems

Service Division

Tony Knott - Senior Service Supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Trade Certificate - Refrigeration Fitting
  • Restricted Electrical License
  • Mechanical Services Commissioning Course

Years in Industry: 25

Tony has worked for various Western Australian companies conducting commissioning, maintenance, service and installation of central plant equipment. His knowledge of refrigeration and HVAC plant, equipment and controls is outstanding.

During his career, Tony has been involved with commissioning LNG equipment for Shell Korea, WAPET Barrow Island and Woodside in Western Australia. He was also involved in the commissioning of the Sawan LNG Plant in Pakistan and various oil and gas platforms throughout Thailand.

Through a previous employer, Tony has been involved with the Australian Federal Government, conducting mechanical services and controls upgrade / commissioning works on Australian Embassies worldwide.

Tony's current position within AMS Service & Maintenance is that of planning and coordination of labour and works for our Perth service division and he is vital in provision of technical and general assistance to our field technicians and clients.

Dave Pickering - Service Supervisor

Qualifications:

Dave has worked in the mechanical services industry locally and internationally as both a Refrigeration Technician and Electrician since 1975. He has been with AMS for more than 15 years and has become one of our most Senior Technicians . He has more recently been appointed a Service Supervisor and is responsible for overseeing a group of five refrigeration technicians. Dave excels in the industry through his devotion and dedication to the task at hand, his initiative in thinking laterally coupled with his great mix of technical and interpersonal skills. His experience and knowledge is second to none and he is an asset to the company.

Dave's responsibilities are:

  • Management and Supervision of Service Technicians
  • Refrigeration and Air-conditioning preventative maintenance, installation and fault finding

Dave has been involved with preventative maintenance and tenancy fit outs on these buildings as well as other buildings within the Perth CBD.

Michael Ranford - Senior Service Technician

Qualifications:

  • Post Trade Studies in Refrigeration Certificate

During his career within the HVAC industry, Michael has worked in the Pilbara region of Western Australia on sites for both for BHP and Hamersley Iron in the role of Service Technician and Project Supervisor at locations such as Newman, Marrandoo, Redmont and Tom Price.

Since his return to Perth in 1997, Michael's role has been as a Field Service Technician and Supervisor in the area of Central Plant installations. This time was broken by a six month period doing FIFO at the Big Bell underground mine in late 1998.

In May 2004, Michael completed Commissioning work for Clough Engineering on the HVAC plant on a gas platform in Surat on the West Coast of India.
